Empowered Entrepreneur:How one woman balances three enterprises to transform her community.

Meet Mollet Ndlovu, a determined 33-year-old woman from Ward 22 (Khame) in Bulilima District. She successfully runs a small shop, a poultry business and sewing enterprise.

Before joining Hand in Hand, Mollet and her husband had difficulties in managing their household from providing meals and paying tuition for her children. However, this led the husband to seek for greener pastures in South Africa.

Life took a new turn when she joined Budamuhalima Self Help Group in April 2022 through ,the Jobs Creation Project. The six-member group, funded by Hand in Hand Sweden received the six modular business development trainings and technical support which helped them launch their poultry enterprise.

Initially the group started with 50 birds and Mollet recognizing her potential in managing a business launched her custom clothing service, drawing on her basic tailoring skills from school.

She bought fabrics and a second – hand sewing machine through borrowing from her group savings. Mollet now generates a steady income of $65 monthly from her tailoring enterprise alone.

With the combined earnings from her group savings, broiler production, tailoring and a monthly allowance from her husband, Mollet successfully rented a grocery shop in Khame Business Centre. This shop brings in an average profit of $180 each month, allowing her to cover her household expenses.

Grateful for the business and technical skills acquired through Hand in Hand, Mollet has also ventured into Sasso poultry production, stocking 80 birds and anticipating a profitable sale of $275 during the festive season. She notes, “I had general knowledge of poultry production, but the training gave me the courage to venture into this enterprise.”

“As a woman, l feel empowered and independent. I embrace the opportunity to showcase my skills. I aim to inspire others in my community to pursue their entrepreneurial dreams “, said Mollet.

With her consistent efforts and diverse income streams, Mollet is determined to achieve her goal of owning a business premise in the future, demonstrating resilience and entrepreneurial spirit.
